Modèle d'avis de décès
An obituary is a strange thing to be asked for: a life, in a paragraph, written by someone who has not slept. There is no correct version, and nothing in it is compulsory — which is worth knowing before you start.
Say where it will appear — a newspaper, a printed card, a post online, a notice on a church door — give the names and the dates, and you receive the full obituary and a short notice, the one you send to a paper that charges by the line.
Publishing an obituary is not a formality. Registering the death is a separate matter, handled wherever you live, and no one will ask you for a notice.

What is the difference between an obituary and a death notice?
A death notice is the short, factual paragraph a family places in a newspaper: the name, the date, the service, and little else. It is charged by the line. An obituary is longer and tells something of the life — what they did, who they leave behind. The tool writes the obituary, and gives you the short notice alongside it.
What has to go in an obituary?
Nothing is required. There is no legal obligation to publish anything, and no wording anyone can insist on. In practice four things do the work: who died, when, who is announcing it, and where the service will be. A three-line notice does its job as well as a long one.
How much does a newspaper notice cost?
It depends on the paper and on the number of lines — papers charge by the line, and the rate varies from title to title. Ask the paper, or the funeral director, who will usually write and file the notice for you. That is why the tool always gives you a short version alongside the full text.
Can I use this to announce a death on social media?
Yes — choose « online » and the text comes out plainer, without newspaper formulas, and ends with the line that lets you off replying to everyone. One rule before you post: close family and closest friends should have been told by phone or in person first. Finding out in a feed leaves a lasting wound.
Is this written by artificial intelligence?
No. Every sentence comes from a template written by hand, and what you type — the names, the dates, the place — is copied exactly, never rewritten. Nothing is invented. Do still have someone else check the day and time of the service: that is the one mistake an obituary cannot afford.
